Clean the Dream 2021

6th Annual Clean the Dream

The 6th annual Clean the Dream event went off without a hitch on Saturday, August 21, 2021, organized by fly fishing guide Landon Mayer.

For the 2nd time, Risers 4 Rett volunteers joined forces with Landon to make this a successful event and clean up the nature we enjoy so much.

Over 200 participated, collecting and removing over 1,000 pounds of trash. All major waterways in the South Park region – including Charlie Meyers State Wildlife Area, the Dream Stream, 11 Mile Reservoir, Spinney Reservoir, Antero Reservoir, Badger Basin and Tomahawk.

As Risers 4 Rett Committee member and Clean the Dream volunteer Peggy Stevinson put it: “If we don’t take care of our resource, we’ll all be fish out of water!

Volunteers started with a breakfast donated by a local restaurant and then armed with trash bags and tools, volunteers moved to different areas. After spending a few hours collecting trash, every person who came back with a full trash bag received a raffle ticket! Top notch fishing outdoor companies donated goodies to support this event and volunteers were awarded for their time!

Origin and idea behind:

Clean the Dream was started by Brandon Kramer & Landon Mayer in 2015, who were bothered by all the trash left behind by outdoor enthusiasts, which is hazardous for animals and unsightly for everyone. They felt the need to make a difference and at the same time provide community support and education on how to protect these resources for the next generation. After they got approval from Colorado Parks & Wildlife, they rallied volunteers to clean up the area around the three-mile long section of the South Platte River, also known as "the Dream Stream”, which is at the Charlie Meyers State Wildlife Area. In 2019 a total of 765 pounds of trash was collected by 125 volunteers. During COVID-19 there has been a 200% increase in outdoor activity, so more trash is to be expected. Events like the Clean the Dream become even more important.

Participating in the Clean the Dream trash pick up event is truly a rewarding experience. It’s giving back to the rivers that provide so many hours of fun to anglers and other outdoorsy people. We hope you will join us next year. To stay up to date about the Clean the Dream 2022, follow Landon Mayer on Facebook or Clean the Dream on Instagram or keep checking our event page.
