What an event! Women’s R4R and Girls on the Rise (GOTR) 2022

Our Women’s R4R and GOTR 2022 are in the books! Let me give you a bit of a background story to put both events in perspective:

As you might know, R4R has been organizing fly-fishing tournaments for years, one in the spring and one in the fall. The location has always been Almont, CO. About two years ago, some participants had the idea to create a separate women’s event and in 2022 we celebrated the 3rd annual! It’s something special, to meet up with other women, from seasoned fly-fishing experts to novices. We take everyone and mansplaining is not allowed ;-)

To switch it up a bit, the R4R committee decided to move the location to a quaint little town in the mountains that has excellent fishing on the beautiful Eagle River, surrounded by National Forests: the Town of Minturn. Having worked with multiple partners in the Minturn area over the past few years, we can truly say, we are blown away by the support of the Minturn community for our event. From the local lodging options - thank you Minturn Inn and Eagle River Inn - to the local fishing store - Minturn Anglers, Eagle River Outfitters and Colorado Angling Company who provided top notch fly fishing instructors.

From August 11-14th, 2022, 25 participants were part of the 2022 Women’s Risers 4 Rett event.  Besides fishing with access to world-class private waters, participants enjoyed a private yoga session, whiskey tasting with 291 Whiskey, massages,  hiking in the gorgeous Vail valley, and enjoying the simplicity of small town pleasures.

As an additional treat, we offered a brand new event this year: GOTR - Girls on the Rise for girls age 7 and up. The idea behind this inaugural event was to empower young women through fly fishing and philanthropy. Our common goal for all Risers events is raise awareness and money for Rett syndrome with our motto “Do something that you love to help someone else”. Rett Syndrome is primarily affecting girls, so we wanted to offer a girls only event to draw attention to this devastating neurological mutation that happens with Rett Syndrome.

Fifteen girls came out on Sunday, August 14th to be part of GOTR. See the pictures for yourself with lots of smiling faces! Thank you Vail Daily for reporting on our event a few days before [link to: https://www.risers4rett.org/blog/girls-on-the-rise-in-the-news]

With both events we raised $57000 dollars for the Rett Clinic at Children’s Hospital CO.

Thank you so much for being part of the Risers community and helping support the Rett Clinic at Children’s Hospital Colorado. As always, we couldn’t do this without support, so we want to thank the following companies:

Moe’s BBQ in Vail and Eagle: you guys rock! Thank you for providing dinner on Thursday and lunch on Sunday for GOTR.
