A Successful Celebration: The 4th Annual RISERS 4 RETT Women’s Event and GOTR 2023

The stage was set in early August for an exceptional series of events that left a mark in impact and enjoyment. The RISERS4RETT Ladies Event and the spirited Girls on the Rise gathering reached new heights this year, breaking records and raising an impressive sum of money. The collective efforts of participants, donors, and volunteers culminated in an accomplishment that deserves to be celebrated.

The combined power of participation fees, engaging live and silent auctions, and spirited paddle raising resulted in a remarkable total of $95,000 raised for the Rett Clinic at Children’s Hospital Colorado. This financial success underlines the commitment of everyone involved to make a positive change and support the cause.

The much-anticipated 4th annual Women’s Risers4Rett unfolded from August 3rd to 5th in the picturesque setting of Minturn, Colorado. Against the backdrop of the stunning Vail Valley, 42 participants came together for an unforgettable experience. The event offered a delightful fusion of activities, including private yoga sessions and a visit to the Belden Witch store for a mystical and intuitive happy hour with owner Jocelyn Laferriere. Nature enthusiasts reveled in invigorating hikes through breathtaking landscapes while indulging in creek-side massages added a touch of luxury. Of course, the highlight was the opportunity for fly fishing in world-class private waters, facilitated by seasoned fishing guides. An exciting addition to this year's event was exclusive access to the Minturn Summer Concert Series, where a delicious dinner was provided, adding a dose of small-town charm to the occasion.

Notably, the Women’s R4R event embraced inclusivity and empowerment. Regardless of skill level, from seasoned fly-fishing experts to eager novices, all were warmly welcomed to share in the experience.

Reflecting on the event, committee member and participant Peggy Stevinson enthused:

“From beginning to end, I enjoyed every part of this event. Especially the camaraderie of wonderful women participating in activities such as streamside massages, silent and live auctions, wonderful meals, bidding on our guides in the casting contest, and, of course, fly fishing! These activities were all enhanced by the knowledge that I was contributing to the essential support of the Rett Syndrome Clinic at Children’s Hospital.”

Heartfelt acknowledgments are due to those who contributed to the event's success. Local partners, including Minturn Inn, Eagle River Inn, and Hotel Minturn, provided essential lodging options. At the same time, Minturn Anglers and Colorado Angling Company shared their expertise as top-notch fly fishing instructors. A special mention goes to Chris Freemeyer, who displayed incredible dedication by allowing the highest bidder to cut off his ponytail with his pocket knife. This unique auction item brought in a sizeable amount of money and elicited great laughter and applause from the participants.

RISERS4RETT owes an outstanding debt of gratitude for the unwavering support of Anne Dresser Kocur. Anne and her team at Liv Sotheby’s Realty have been the primary Ladies' Event Sponsor for three consecutive years. Our thanks to Anne and her team! Thank you also to the Village Bagel, Chef on the Fly and Vail Catering Concepts for keeping the team fed and happy!

Dolan Geiman, an exceptionally talented artist, generously donated his beautiful painting "Sing Me Back Home," adding an artistic touch to the event's offerings. This incredible auction item got the bidding going and is now a resident in the home of the highest bidder.

Our gratitude extends to every participant, donor, and volunteer who poured their efforts into making these events memorable and impactful. The event's resonance was further heightened by the gracious invitation from the Minturn Community Fund, which welcomed Risers 4 Rett participants to the captivating town of Minturn. Our most profound appreciation goes to Terry Armistead, Minturn Mayor Pro Tem, for participating in our event and for the warm Minturn welcome.

Continuing their commitment to empowerment, RISERS4RETT also presented the Girls on the Rise (GOTR) event on August 6th, 2023. This parallel event catered to girls aged 7 and above. Offering enriching activities such as donated yoga sessions by Jocelyn Laferriere, a casting clinic courtesy of Eagle River Outfitters, and an animated live auction conducted by Brett Barker. The girls enjoyed sharing a delectable lunch provided by Moe’s Original BBQ.

In summary, the RISERS4RETT Ladies Event and Girls on the Rise 2023 edition achieved remarkable milestones through unity, enthusiasm, and an unwavering commitment to meaningful causes. As the echoes of these events continue to resonate, the collective impact will undoubtedly inspire positive change for the time to come.
